I'm a New York journalist and blogger. My photographs have appeared in TIME Magazine, Salon, The Austin Chronicle, The Globe and Mail, Shock Magazine, Earth Island Journal, and other publications. My prose has appeared in Salon, the New York Press, Chelsea Now, AlterNet, and elsewhere.

My main camera is a Canon EOS-20D which I love the way some people love their children.

I'm a Canadian girl who tends to shy away from confrontations. A couple weeks ago I was taking pictures in a deserted part of Gowanus, Brooklyn.

Suddenly this guy got right up in my face and said, "Hey, bitch."

There was something about his body language that scared the hell out of me.

Luckily, I was so concerned that he wanted to steal my camera that I instinctively stepped even closer, forcing him to step back so that my new telephoto lens wouldn't hit him in the chest.

"Hey, asshole," I snarled.

He turned around and walked away.

For the first time, I felt like a real New Yorker.

Note: Bloggers, please feel free to use the "blog this" button above each image.

All other forms of reproduction without express permission are expressly prohibited.

I sometimes use Flickr's "blog this" to feature the images of other users on my own blog. I assume that users who enable "blog this" for the entire community are comfortable with having their images blogged by third parties. It's a win-win situation. The blogged photo gets more exposure and points towards its "interestingness" score.

I'm Female.
