Mahar Drygoods Profile:

Hello! My name is Robert Mahar and I am the proprietor and ringleader of www.mahardrygoods.com/, the online emporium of vintage and artisan crafted curiosities for children. I curate this online collaboration of more than four-dozen artists, designers and craftspeople to create the imaginative and unexpected. Never mass-produced, all Mahar Drygoods items are handmade in the homes and studios of their creators with an emphasis on recycled and sustainable materials whenever possible. A sampling of items that have graced our virtual shelves can be seen in my Flickr sets. And of course I invite you to visit the Mahar Drygoods site and do a little exploring of your own. You can also follow us on Twitter and become a Facebook fan!

Prior to Mahar Drygoods, I studied studio art and art history, and then worked for twelve years as an appraiser of modern and contemporary art in Los Angeles. If were you to go back a little further, you'd find a kid that was never finished rearranging his room and would rather stay inside and weave pot-holders on a plastic loom and bake shrinky-dinks than run around the yard.

In the spring of 2007 I formed the International Chapter of the Junior Society, a blog that explores the riotous world of kiddie culture and design. Regular club meetings offer the opportunity to earn merit badges in arts & crafts, celebrations, cleanliness, decoration, entertainment, gastronomy, literacy, parenting, wardrobe among numerous other categories. I am the self-appointed Grand Poobah of the clubhouse, a title I’ve bestowed upon myself mainly ‘cause it makes me sound like a big shot and somehow justifies my desire to wear a tasseled fez and develop secret handshakes. Come join me - membership is free and it builds character! www.juniorsociety.com/
