"The few photographs I'm trying to make show my interior against the landscape I'm in. At times I put in words -Soup - Strength - Fate - Blind."

Robert Frank

"I dont use an exposure meter. My personal advice is: Spend the money you would put into such an instrument for film. Buy yards of film, miles of it. Buy all the film you can get your hands on. And then experiment with it.
That is the only way to be successful in photography. Test, try, experiment, feel your way along. It is the experience, not technique, which counts in camera work first of all. If you get the feel of photography, you can take fifteen pictures while one of your opponents is trying out his exposure meter."

Alfred Eisenstaedt

my photos are for the most part a record of my new york and concomitantly of my america (not to be confused with the other america of bible thumping anti-intellectual anti-international anti-immigrant anti-science numbnuts). in the course of my daily life i pretty much see a broad segment of the spectrum of human wealth & want. i am touched by the human degradation of the street, repelled by the soulless materialism of many of economically privileged people and for the most part languish in the indifference of those of us in between.

for me, ultimately, these things are part of the natural (darwinian) order. i can hope that those of us who have been luckier in the life lottery can work to forge a society that tries to provide for the unlucky but have no illusions that any social system can or will change human nature. indeed, money makes the world go ‘round.
