Luke H's photostream
|
First, and foremost, let us not forget that an anagram for 'photography' is 'Happy hog rot." That pretty much sums up my photostream.
I will start out by saying that my photos MAY be for sale if you feel the desire to purchase prints or rights to use them in any manner. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like to inquire about similar work to what you are seeing in my photostream. I am also willing to perform requested photography work, given I have the time and resources available. Flickr Mail is the most secure manner to initially protect the privacy of my telephone number or email address.
My goals are to photodocument my day to day life in an interesting manner
and constantly improve my eye for photography. However, it is important for me
to continue to make due with the cheap cameras that I collect, because I believe it will make me a better photographer than one who purchases high dollar equipment without the skill to utilize it. I'm a hopeless gearhead though and I know that half of what makes photography fun for me is the mechanical devices which make the pictures.
I'm finally having a 'moment of clarity' and realizing that one person CAN have too many cameras. I have too many cameras.
The list of cameras I have is continually
growing. Most of them are cheap 620 film cameras that other people pass
over, thinking they cannot be used anymore. I'm addicted to the hunt and purchase of any new cameras I find in antique stores or at estate sales.
I like rangefinder cameras, and prefer them to SLR cameras. There is no justifiable reason.
My first real film camera was my Yashica Electro 35 GS. It makes
great photos and I just like the feel of it. It's a good old camera and
I hope it remains working well for years to come. It is responsible for my initial journey back into film photography.
I installed a darkroom in my basement in February, 2007 and hope to continually improve my printing efforts.
I started bulk loading black and white 35mm film and developing it at home in February, 2006. I'm always wanting to try new types of film and developers to learn what is going to work for me in the long run. I get bored doing the same thing over and over, which is why photography and its infinite combinations of steps is one of the only hobbies I've found to hold my attention for a long amount of time.
Please don't feel hesitant to leave comments or criticism, as I'm eager to hear and learn from anyone.

"I never get tired of looking at Lukes photos. They're interesting and creative. He's always experimenting looking for new ways to do things. Whenever I look at Lukes photostream, I'm inspired to want to set up a darkroom and develop my own film. I think we both share a strong interest in old rangefinder cameras and black and white photography. Rangefinders and B&W film go together like bacon and eggs. They're made for each other. I think someone said Luke Rocks ! I have to agree with that."

"Since I joined flickr way back in '06 Luke has been one of my most treasured contacts, the way in which he composes his photographs and takes the time and effort to develop them, whilst always responding back to any questions you may have about developing or anything in the photography process is just brilliant.
Here's to you!"29th September, 2008

"I admire Luke H's philosophy and creativity when it comes to photography. He is extremely knowledgeable, very helpful, and for a newbie to photography such as myself, simply inspirational. His photostream is just amazing, and his classic, vintage style is definately a throwback to "modern photography". Luke H, you rock!"

"I first added Luke as a contact when I noticed that 1) he was from the Midwest, like me, and 2) he had some really, really nice photos. Since then, I've watched as his photostream gets better and better and his technique and use of various cameras improves. The Midwest is not the easiest place to photograph - it tends to lack subject matter, particularly a variety of landscapes. But Luke never fails to make the Midwest interesting. I always look forward to the images he creates."

"Luke has a gift and talent beyond description. His ability to capture life in a way that ordinary objects translate into emotive moments in time is unique! His work belongs in a coffee table book, and he could easily photograph still life for the top magazines in the country. Luke's got a gift, and I'm so glad that he decided to share it with the rest of us!"
