"All human beings have three lives: public, private and secret" - Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

I'd also like to quote from a contact of mine and a fine photographer, Andre Easter

"Sharpness way past the point of necessity is a problem with digital technology, and a primary reason why I have not embraced it outside of my "day job" work. Too many people have made a fetish of sharpness, misguidedly thinking it to be the main characteristic of a good photo -- the fools. This Cult of Sharpness has resulted in our being awash in a sea of harsh, sterile and souless images.

This is a perfect example of why I still use genuine B&W film. There is just something about silver-halide emulsion that reminds me that it is the genuine article; the ideal that the newer technology still tries so hard to emulate.

Come out of the dark cave of pixels and sensors ... Come back out into the silvery light."

That encapsulates much of what I believe. I don't strive for sharpness or crispness in photographs. Instead, I try to reproduce how my mind's eye sees and to evoke an emotional response in the viewer.

    verdigris jane says:

"I was a-wondering why Lucy has no testimonials, and now I've started to write one, I understand why. It is a daunting task! Lucy states in her profile that she is a beginner and this makes me think - if she is a beginner, perhaps I haven't been born yet!

Lucy says that her photographic journey started as an outward one and then turned inwards - and this shows in her work. She follows the seasons and the land closely and loves what is around her. She turns everyday plants, seedheads and trees into something with universal appeal. There are portraits too, she treats all her subjects with care.

And then, of course, there is her delicate skill in processing the photos she takes - she has the lightest of touches and creates delicate magic. Last, but certainly not least, are the poems - the many quotes she seems to have at her finger tips - she has the ability to make an image that relates to her chosen words, although sometimes it almost seems as if it may be the other way round and the poet was waiting for Lucy's picture. Lucy is a consummate artist.

    I recommend her photostream wholeheartedly."
