LUCIA, or ‘Life Uplifted by Change In Africa', is a small Birmingham (UK) based charity run entirely by enthusiastic volunteers. The aim of the charity is to improve the lives of people living in poor areas of Africa, particularly women and children in Ethiopia.

To do this LUCIA supports various projects including:

• The formation of Women's Self Help Groups (SHG), promoting sustainable development within communities.

• The provision of healthcare, food and education for orphan girls and street children.

LUCIA also currently funds a student placement in Ethiopia. Kirsty Bate provides assistance to LUCIA's Ethiopian partner SWDA, and regularly reports back on her experiences. Keep up to date by reading all of her latest blog posts.
