Mission Statement
The mission of lovechicago.org is in its name: to spread love for Chicago – the city that works, the city that plays, a place to call home. Chicago’s foundation and what makes it unlike any other city is its independent businesspeople and artists, and those who support them. Lovechicago.org is their source. The one-of-a-kind e-zine’s mission is to promote remarkable Chicago-area independent and artists and businesspeople through excellent-quality content and design. It is lovechicago.org’s goal to perform this mission in conjunction with a diverse and talented team of photographers, writers, designers and artists to present these stories in creative and thought-provoking ways.
Why Love, Chicago?
Home to more than 3 million people, some of the best artists and brightest entrepreneurs work and reside in Chicago. Lovechicago.org e-zine profiles independent artists, businesspeople and events that have helped make Chicago not only a destination, but a place to hang one's hat.
Lovechicago.org’s target demographic includes Chicago-area residents – as well as people who are curious about our fine city – who know the lifeblood of any cultural mecca is the local independent scene. These loyal patrons make a conscious effort to seek out and buy from independents because they know they are the foundation on which our city is built. Simply put – our readers love Chicago!
Distributed globally via the Web, lovechicago.org is widely available, but especially appeals to people who are interested in Chicago’s dynamic arts and culture scenes, its diverse neighborhoods, and its unmistakable hard-working and down-to-earth, friendly, yet urban vibe.
In addition to features on essential artists and businesses, the e-zine has dedicated a reviews section to the work of bands, filmmakers, restaurants, Web sites and zines. Love, Chicago also includes other intriguing departments that look at the city from the perspective of working artists, progressive thinkers and thrill seekers.
New Format
Lovechicago.org is the new incarnation of Love, Chicago, which was founded in 2005 as an 8x11-inch black-and-white hardcopy zine. The new e-zine thrives with the same mission, but now it’s even better: it’s free, easy to find, available globally, updated regularly, and, as it grows and evolves, will add new features and real-time dialogue you just can’t get with a paper zine. Not that we snub the paper-zine format – quite the opposite. We absolutely adore zines and review them in here – but we think the Web serves our format and mission much better. Oh, and I guess you could say by being online, lovechicago.org is a greener version of its former paper self, though we’d like to hope our back issues never end up in a landfill.
