One of my buddy icons is that of a nazarenos (capirotes) during the Semana Santa (Holly Week) street processions in Sevilla, Spain. These traditional costumes have been used for more than 500 years.

Americans notice that the costumes of the Nazarenos are similar to those of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). See the article Ku Klux Klan regalia and insignia (Wikipedia) that explains the origin of the KKK costumes.
