I always pictured myself having a 9-5 job in a cubicle, counting down the seconds until my day was over, and returning to a simple house in a suburban area. I loathed the idea of my upcoming lifestyle, but that's all I knew. However, something sparked in me when I picked up my first digital camera at 13. It was actually my mothers, but I loved it so much I bought it off of her. I saved all my babysitting money just to pay off the cheap nikon coolpix (i think it was 2 mpx) camera. I was constantly taking pictures and enjoying the automatic settings. I didn't find photography more than a hobby until one day I went to the beach with a good friend of mine. She loved photography, so I kept my infatuation with my nikon a secret. I was eager to return home so I could upload pictures my day. I immediately showed my parents and of course they were happy, but my dad seamed somewhat impressed with my sub-par pictures. He saw something in my work that he had seen before, my Grandfather. He was a photographer for the Providence Journal, winning awards and a Pulitzer Prize. He became an inspiration for me that day on. I bought my next point and shoot canon powershot shortly after that. It was deffinately a step above the out dated nikon coolpix. I spent my days outside shooting, and my nights teaching myself how to use my camera. When i was a Sophomore in highschool I started looking for a 35 mm camera on ebay and finally outbid someone on a nikon n65. May of Junior year I convinced my parents to put a Nikon D70s on their credit card, and I would pay them each month until it was paid off. I pinched my pennies to have that camera. I did my first wedding with it, my first Christmas card, my first portrait headshots, and so much more. I finished highschool and started a one year photography program at The Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University. I am in my second semester and enjoying every class. I now shoot with a Canon 40d with 28-135 IS, 70-300 mm IS, and 430 EX speedlight.
