I'm a Canadian who married an Egyptian/Sudanese and moved to Egypt in the 80's to raise our children without knowledge of snow shovels. My husband died in June 2000, but I decided to stay on, as Egypt by that time was my home. I've since rented out the family's city home and moved to a farm that I've built over the past few years near the pyramids of Abu Sir.

The farm houses my roughly 14 horses, three donkeys, numerous goats, a working pack of American Rat Terriers, two Dalmations, a Great Dane, Moroccan Sloughi, and a couple of baladi dogs, as well as parrots, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and rabbits...and whatever else friends and neighbours bring by if it needs fixing. I raise organic crops on the farm and give riding lessons to adults and some children who want to learn basic horsemanship and trailriding. I also do trailrides for residents of Cairo and visitors who want to see our less commercialised deserts and the lush countryside of the Nile Valley. I've studied the life styles and farming techniques of the local fellaheen farmers for years and one of the joys in my life is sharing this knowledge with others.

For a number of years I've been publishing weblogs on Egypt:
