So here we are. Now that you've landed in my photostream, it may be a good idea if I told you more about myself.
Where do you come from?
I was born in Tynedale (NE England) and is where I spent my first 17 years. I went to school with the farmers of SE Northumberland which was an experience to say the least!
How long have you been on Merseyside?
I moved in August 2006 but I had always come to visit family on regular occasions previous to this. I had always felt that Merseyside (Wallasey in particular) was my home rather than Northumberland...I am the only member of the family to hail from Englands most Northerly County! At the time of writing (APR08) I am nearing the end of my two years at BSFC which is in Claughton on the Wirral.
How long have you been interested in photography?
Goodness knows! My first camera was a red Olympus; this was a Christmas gift from a relative. I must have been 14 when I got this. My aunt was always a keen photographer...she's been the biggest influence!
What kind of photo's do you take?
I love to take images of the urban environment. You may find that these are everyday street-scenes rather than individual buildings. I tend to focus on the Merseyside region, but I do also enjoy breaking out into the wider North Western region of Northern England. I doubt my images will ever be award winning..nor ground breaking. It's more the sense of nostalgia that spurs me on to take images of urban areas. Nothing stays the same, especially in the re-newed age of demolition of streets across Merseyside and the North as a whole.
You seem to get everywhere...how do you do this?
Several people have asked me this...I actually use my Arriva North West pass to my advantage! Liverpool and Merseyside is well served by this operator so its never difficult to get around! I also walk around the suburbs...this ensures I get a good batch of images of specific streets and districts.
I have noticed you have several collections...could you explain how these have been worked out?
I have 5 collections..these are where my sets can be found. The collections are generally named by local authority, but in Liverpool's case, I have made North, South and Central collections that include all the areas of the city I have covered.
North Liverpool includes all districts that are North of Edge Lane and within the city's confines. I haven't added any Bootle images, when this happens, I will make a new "Sefton" collection, the same applies for Knowsley.
South Liverpool is anywhere South of Edge Lane.
Liverpool City Centre is self-explanatory.
Wirral includes all places in Wirral MBC, exluding Wallasey.
Wallasey: This is to make the accessing of the streets of Wallasey simpler.
The Streets of Wallasey...whats that all about?
This all came about in 2007 when my dad informed me that I wasn't taking enough images of Wallasey. It was at this point that I decided that recording every street in Wallasey would be a good idea, especially as nothing so big had ever been under-taken before. It it still work in progress with streets slowly being uploaded! Theres still a long way to go..but we'll get there!
Liverpool Suburbia AKA Russ; Thankyou for your time
Its a pleasure
