Photography is a way to document what I see---a visual diary. I just shoot stuff as I encounter it. Waiting for the perfect light is not my style. To get an idea of what I am photographing, look at my collections and sets. My galleries contain photos taken by others that reflect subjects that I like. The majority of my photos relate to road trips to Utah for desert hiking. The four main areas in that state that I visit are the Bonneville Salt Flats and neighboring mountains, Salt Lake City, the San Rafael Reef, and the area around Moab (heaven!). I have been traveling to Utah since 2004, usually in the Spring and Fall.

My photo descriptions sometimes contain silly descriptions about getting high on sandstone, being a follower of The Bhagwan Hotair Windbag of Antelope, investigating magnetic bubbles, or preparing for an invasion by an inter-galactic force that is bent on domination of the Earth. In many of these ramblings I make fun of myself.

I have been taking pictures since 1966. In late 2003 I bought my first digital camera and kissed film goodbye. 99.99% of the images here were shot as digital. Some day I'll get involved with scanning slides and negatives.

I block people without hesitation or apology if they:
Do not participate on Flickr (their photostream is empty or has not been updated in a long time), or
Send spam comments (comments containing the phrase "Commented with FlickrComments"), or
Glorify vandalism to private property (either the photostream is, or favorites are, mostly shots of spray-painted graffiti on private property, including railroad freight cars).

    The Rocketeer says:

"Dave taught me everything I know about how to overcome trans-sonic shutter interference pattern expansion when attempting to photograph subjects in a high tachyon environment. His advice has saved many a photo since then because it effectively removed all parallax sensor manifestation without having to buy a dynamic positronium based compensator... and everyone knows how expensive those thorium based power cells are!

    I like his photos too..."

"I always enjoy Dave's backside view of the Moab area and his wonderful humor. It's great to see such an attitude on a site where photographers can sometimes take themselves just a little bit too seriously ;)"
