I found the best café in Paris! Le Sélect. The faces at the Le Sélect are great to draw and there is an endless parade of them. I have been following this parade since 1995. It is pure magic. For this artist, there are no other cafés in Paris!

In November 2007, a book was published that I co-authored with Noël Riley Fitch, "Paris Café: The Sélect Crowd." (Soft Skull Press)

Available on Amazon.com.

    NCMallory says:

"Rick Tulka makes it look easy to seize implied narratives and delightful, witty tableaux from the ever-changing crowd at Cafe Le Select. His deceptively simple style with pencil conceals a masterful eye for composition. But these gifts add up to more: an overall effect magical in its power to render the French atmosphere in a few decisive strokes.

And as if that weren't enough, he's equally marvelous with color. Check out his watercolor work at his blog and professional website.

I learn something new from him each time I visit his Flickr domain.

    M.A. Wakeley says:

"Rick's Paris café drawings are truly exceptional in their ability to capture the essence of one of the most quintessential elements of Parisian life. One is instantly transported to another place and time through his delightful, thoughtful and tongue-in-chic (cheek) snippets of the unique clientele at Le Select Café. His work is a special treat delivered daily in my contacts photostream. Please read his book and see the CBS video clip for an inspiring view of the pleasures of living as an artist in Paris!"

    Paris Breakfast says:

"Rick is probably the BEST cafe artist ever!
And maybe the only cafe artist ever.
He spends everyday sitting around downing Perriers and sketching superbly other cafe-Perrier-drinkers in Paris..
Life is very tough for some people..
    His book is FAB too!"
