I first started my fascination with photography in my early teens. When I was 13 my mom taught me how to load a camera, then sent me out to take some pictures. By the time I was done the roll I'd forgotten how to properly rewind the camera, so popped the back open and hand cranked the film back into the cartridge. Needless to say little came back.

Flash forward a few years after that ill-fated roll, I tried again, this time with a roll of black and white film and my Dad's A1 one summer day. I spent several hours wandering around the city with the camera manual in my hands, testing all the different buttons and ideas, seeing if I could capture the effects I'd seen in magazines and photography books piled high on coffee tables. I took my first double exposures, some of which I still regard as among my best photos, and I captured some angles that would re-appear over and over in my pictures.

I try to improve my skill and eye as much as I can at every opportunity, but such can be said of most photographers. My fascination with photography is an extension of my deep rooted obsession with identity. Photos hold the power to both express and obscure the identity and true nature of their subjects. In my portrait endeavors I am of the philosophy that it is my duty to capture not a record of the events, but a record of the essence that still manages to communicate the events.

And I love to talk about it all.

A lot.
