How does one begin writing about their interests and then find a place to stop? My interests are diverse and change often with one exception, my beautiful, wonderful,and loving wife Melissa. She has been the interest that defines me for more than 12 years now and that distinction is hers to keep for all of time. Together we share many interests which we hope to share with our beautiful daughter Sophie as she grows up. Among these are the love of travel, photography, and music. Personally I am a language nut. I speak fluent Spanish and Portuguese, managable Italian, and enough French that we survived Paris. As I meet international friends I have always enjoyed trading language skills. This gave me a chance to learn a little Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, and Tagalog. I am a very open minded and accepting person who feels tolerance and respect are two of the most important character traits one can possess and I try to develop these traits in my students. I am facinated by the politics and culture of world religions. I am active in progressive politics and work to advance progressive ideas and campaigns. I enjoy listing to NPR & the BBC, to the point that podcasts and informative news radio are not so much an interest of my wife's on most days. I enjoy sports in general but Ohio State and Cleveland teams in specific. I enjoy seeing my students take an interest in what we discuss in class and then choose to get involved with a cause causes that support their interests. I love seeing my students succeed in life and knowing that I had a small hand in making it happen.

    "Usually when I come across a photostream that's a 'family & friends' stream - pix of daily life posted for storage/viewing - I move on; not because there won't be great photos of the gas station restroom or great Uncle Martin (there may be), but because - generally - they're not all that interesting to someone without a personal connection. But what would happen if there was a stream where weekly travels were documented with dozens of photos...and they were all good? Where 10 images 'out of the roll' were compelling, not just 1?
    Well, then we'd have Shawn's photostream - the closest thing on Flickr to a visual tour guide of hundreds of communities, buildings (his skill with architecture is marvelous) , parklands and anywhere else he's walked around.

    This is easily one of the most interesting streams on the site. The main reason is that Shawn has a natural gift of sensing the surroundings and capturing the essence of a place. Just dive in...pick a page...and 10 minutes later you'll feel you've certainly been to Pine Mountain, Georgia, or Roosevelt State Park, or Brecksville, Ohio. Most outdoor photographers are natural geography buffs...and Shawn's output is like a picture Atlas. With 360 pages (and growing as I type), clicking 'Next' is like opening a book to a random page, and spending a few chapters on Costa Rica or Cleveland. There are thousands of images worthy of the sparkling icons we toss around...but the real reward goes to us, the viewer, as we truly Explore."
