I am an ex-pat, British, living in Spain, and have always been interested in photography. I started when I was still at school using a folding 120 camera made in the UK. Don't remember the name. I used it for family photos but mainly for my plane spotting hobby.

I started thinking of photography as an art or means of expression when I got my first second hand slr Yashica which was soon exchanged for a new Yashica TL Electro. I use to do my own BW developing and printing; silhouettes where my thing then. FP4 rated at 200asa and printed on grade 5 paper.

Unfortunately, I lost all my photographic equipment, Pentax MX plus lenses, when I moved to Italy. The first flat I lived in was too damp in winter which I did not expect. You can imagine the horror story....

Soon after moving to Madrid I got myself a Nikon F80 and later on a secondhand FG, which I believe was used for astronomy. I usually use Fuji 400 and for some of the Bull running action photos the 800 film. It is becoming more difficult to find the various professional films without having to travel across town to find an outlet that is still open and stocks the stuff. I have no real plans to move into digital yet, at least not unless I can figure out some way to make it pay for itself.

At the moment I use Paint.Net and Gimp Shop to improve the colour of the digital copies I get from the film developers.

One of the reasons I am not a professional photographer today was the prospect of doing wedding photography. I had a good opportunity when I was young but found it rather boring. Even if it was a good money earner. I like street photography, landscapes and nature photography, cultural places and of course action photography (hence the bull running thing).

Would like to have: wide format kit for landscapes; better lenses and maybe a decent range finder to keep in my pocket.

Would like to do more: nature and landscape photography, documentary photography and street photography in various parts of Europe.

Mission impossible: make photography pay for itself.

all the best.
