The Stichting Kunstvereeniging Katwijk was founded in 2008, a hundred years after its predecessor which was founded in 1908. Then, an artist colony flourished in Katwijk. Many painters from Holland, other European countries and abroad visited or lived in this fisherman’s village. Much of their work is exhibited in the Katwijks Museum.
Nowadays, at the beginning of July during the summer, "en plein air" painters, who paint in the open air, like their predecessors, are invited to come and paint near the sea. At the beach, in the village of Katwijk and its surroundings, (which at present includes Valkenburg and Rijnsburg), they choose their subjects. During the rest of the summer their work is being shown at the DunaAtelier, on the Katwijk beach in front of the Old Church on the Boulevard. It was possible to build this pavillion with the financial aid of the Katwijk Buildingsociety Dunavie. Architect Chris Warmenhoven from Stolarchitecten based his plan on the pavillion which had been built on the Boulevard a hundred years ago. See also: www.schilderenaanzee.nl
