I grew up in southern New York near the Hudson River, lived for about 20 years in central California about a mile from the Kern River and now live in Grants Pass, Oregon - about 3 doors from the Rogue River. Who knew rivers would provide a thread of continuity in my life?
I started playing with SLR's about 30 years ago, but life got a bit busy (raising a daughter, lots of working, etc. ) and I drifted away from photography. I started getting back into photography pretty seriously about a year and a half ago, and did a pile of freelance writing jobs to save enough to buy a Canon Rebel XT. I am thoroughly enjoying getting reacquainted with a camera.
Most of my photos - and most of my writing pieces - are nature based. I'm a gardener, a birder, a hiker and a lover of the outdoors.
“Whatever peace I know rests in the natural world, in feeling myself a part of it, even in a small way…” - May Sarton

g*s*c - busy says:
"Karen is a very accomplished photographer and naturalist. I have always been awed by how she presents things in nature. I was introduced to Karen through the Shooting to Learn group and some of her posts of seed pods which were such things of beauty and so easy for most of us to overlook. Her images are stunning. She knows how to use light to bring out the full character of detail and color. It is clear that she loves the natural world around. To explore her photostream is to become acquainted with all of its wonders.
Thanks for all that I have learned from you Karen and I look forward to the treasures you bring through your photography."13th September, 2008
