Kirk Thorsteinson, a scientist by training, is a Canadian expatriate married to a Thai currently residing in Singapore. He has maintained a passion for photography since childhood.

Mr. Thorsteinson's goal is the exploration of past photography formulary, equipment and techniques for monochrome film processing and traditional fine art print production. He works exclusively in this medium. His particular interest is the art of composition in candid portraiture.

He is an avid collector and user of medium format cameras and lenses from the 1950’s through to the 1980’s, as well as enlargers and enlarging lenses. He has been fortunate enough to be able to develop and maintain a rather respectably sized collection of vintage photography and darkroom equipment, as well as technical literature.

Since 1995 Mr. Thorsteinson’s photography has focused on capturing quintessential moments of life in rural and urban Asian communities. He uses wide variety of vintage photography equipment and techniques, including pinhole photography as well as the hand coloring of prints, to generate his photographic style.
