King House's photostream |
King House, built in the early 18th century, was the childhood home of the 1st Earl of Kingston but by 1788 the house was sold and converted into a barracks for the famous Connaught Rangers. After Civil War in 1923 the barracks passed into the control of the Irish Free State Army.
With the aid of audio guides visitors can now take a tour of the house at their leisure, and encounter life-size historical figures, voices from the past and hands-on family activities that bring the building and its residents alive!
Adults and children alike will enjoy writing with a quill and ink, dressing up like a Gaelic Chieftain or beating the regimental drum, and a tour would not be complete without visiting the cold and damp jail cells!
