Kim Beckmann has practiced as a graphic designer for a decade and an exhibiting artist for two decades. She has exhibited extensively throughout the United States and internationally in Korea, Greece, and Bulgaria. She has won numerous awards for her work in design and art. Most recently, she has been awarded The Merit Award from the Visual Art Center of New Jersey in Summit, NJ, Third Place from the Lessedra World Art Print Annual in Sophia, Bulgaria and First Place from the Joyce Dutka Foundation, NY, NY. She has also received a Design Excellence Award for the Milwaukee Gateway Signage Program logo in the Graphis Logo 6 International Design Competition. For the exhibition design of Thinking and Making, An April Greiman Retrospective, in collaboration with Anne Ghory-Goodman, they received a Merit A ward from the Society for Environmental Graphic Designers. In addition, she has won several Gold Awards from the Florida Addy’s and the People’s Choice Award for Media Campaign.

Her work can be described as an examination of transitional spaces that compares letter and structure, word and space, stream of information and path, language and place. Her work has been published in Graphis and has been cited in numerous texts including Writing with Images: A Semiotics of the Web.

She is currently an Assistant Professor in Graphic Design at the Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Prior to her appointment at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, she was an Associate Professor in Communication Design at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design from 1998-2003, and an Assistant Professor in Visual Communications at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh from 1996-1998. She received her MFA degree from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Print/Media in 1996, and her BFA degree from Florida State University in Graphic Design in 1993.
