I was rather influenced at a young age by the works of Ansel Adams; his concept of previsualization in conjunction with the zone-system of exposure and development, I started taking photos with a Pentax K1000 and a hand held light meter.

Never getting any real darkroom time, the Adams approach to photography was put away, along with the 4X5 camera. But still, his work and teachings have had an influence on my eye and approach, even though the resulting photographs don't reflect that in any respect.

My move to NYC in the 80's resulted in the loss of cameras (still had the K1000 and a beautiful Leica set), victims of the crack epidemic.

The digital revolution now has me taking "snapshots", simple point-and-shoot captures that require only the eye and some tweaking in the digital darkroom (Photoshop). I've added a Nikon D80 to the arsenal, setting up some glass for a Linhof Kardon 4X5 for an attempt at doing some large format work, have added some medium-format cameras into the mix. all for fun and enjoyement. Results to be posted eventually.

""Simple Simon met a Pieman, going to the Fair." In this " WorldFair" where I often feel like Si the Simp, it's great that KeylimeSteve (my Pieman) is a skipper, adventurer, dog guy, Dad, motorman, fisher, and all-around scallywag and provocateur. Even here on the Best Coast--his wares are held in great renown, and his hospitality is famed (he said, priming the hospitality pump). Good picture-taking storyteller, yarnspinner, and fishing liar, too."

"Stemp.. what an inspiration he has been. I am weeping tears of sentiment as I type this. This is the one man who has always been there to befoul the air with his gas no matter how dire the circumstances. The one man who I could always count on to never come home in twenty minutes when he says he will. The one man who I know will never trim his nostril hairs.

    I will never forget you."
