Enjoying re-igniting my photography in this digital era, learning new skills and fine tuning others, and seeing what develops for the future.

What is the most fascinating part of photography I am enjoying at present is that with the aid of this modern technology we can capture any moment in time never to be revisited, never to be copied, just captured and enjoyed.

Now my 365 project is complete, I look back at when I started and examine the quality of the photographs taken of what was then and is now. I am pleased with my progress, developing my knowledge of the DSLR camera and its capabilities were my primary aims. I am glad I stepped up a notch in cameras, purchasing a Sony A700 at a reasonable price; this has given me some confidence of producing better quality shots. I would advise any keen amateur taking up photography to join an online forum, the wealth of knowledge that can be gleaned from others who are willing to help and give direction is unprecedented. At this point I would mention ‘Pixalo’ & ‘Phototopix’ who have some very helpful people and have some good guidance for beginners and the like.
I have found that digital photography is not just about getting the right shot in the lens and capturing the image, but second stage processing which is digital editing, this in its self is a new area, but over the year I have found that Adobe Photoshop and Paint shop pro have and are my preferred choice of editing software, I know there are a by far other software packages, but these are the ones I have become familiar with and will continue to use for the present times.
I have completed an online photographer’s course which was very helpful and provided a foundation of understanding of composition, picture quality and good camera techniques. I also subscribe to the monthly magazine ‘digital photographer’, which gives some good pointers and good tutorials for editing software.
So its onwards and upwards now, my next stage is looking into stock photography and seeing if what I have learned can help produce the quality of shots that will be accepted by those strict quality controllers, an interesting year ahead.
