I am interested in urban ecology and conservation- in other words, how we can better understand nature in cities and break down the notion that urban areas are devoid of biodiversity. I am not a professional photographer but am an ecologist and entomologist that has been studying butterflies, bees and other insects in New York City (especially in community gardens, see collections) for the last seven years (with periodic photographing in the Catskills of NYC, Puerto Rico and other, less urban locations). Currently, I am working as a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow at Fordham University and helping coordinate a citizen science program called NYC Bee Watchers (www.nycbeewatchers.org), which is run by the NYC Parks Dept. and American Museum of Natural History. I hope you enjoy these images and feel free to drop me a line!
