Ok, I have to admit; this flickr thing is now an addiction. Also the Orton habit. It used to be that many things I looked at, I thought "that would be a great picture." Then it became, "I wonder how that would do on Flickr?" Now it's, "That would look great as an Orton."

I've been trying to explain this flickr thing to my wife. I think she gets it, but she pretends not to. I just tell her it's like all of her scrapbooking, but with a LOT more people to look at the finished product. What I like most is the contact with all of you out there. Sometimes I feel like I'm sitting around a big fire, in very comfortable clothes, probably jeans and my old, ratty OSU sweatshirt that Amy threatens to burn, and there's just a bunch of us passing snapshots back and forth, telling stories about them. In the middle of it all we realize that we're learning bits and pieces about each other, a snippit of a child here, a wife there, a pet on the couch, hobbies strewn about for the world to see. Then we'll be passed a photo and we just have to stop, take it over by the window for better light, and be amazed at the beauty in our hands. Sometimes we'll smile at the image, or if we're really lucky, it will make us laugh out loud. Then from the other room, Amy will ask what is so funny. Oh just a picture my friend is sharing from the other side of the world. Come on in, she's visiting here in the family room by the fireplace.

That's what flickr feels like to me.

"Remember your favorite teacher from middle school? That warm, funny guy who still got excited about sharing his favorite topic with you? The one who ignited your enthusiasm with the sheer strength of his own? Well, that's Kyle. Take a ramble through his photostream and you'll see the world through the eyes of someone who loves it well. Kyle's excitement is infectious--in the short time I've known him here at Flickr, he has managed to repeatedly brighten my day. Thanks, Kyle. Keep shooting, keep Ortoning, and keep Sleestaking! We'll all keep looking."

"You know, as an adult being a "penpal" seems kind of juvenile. But flickr has allowed me to save "friends" and contacts and to share daily by viewing their works and occasionally pass along a comment or "hi". My travels in the world have opened my eyes up to seeing people all around the world as basically being the "same". What a wonderful discovery that is.

I've met Christians and other friends through flickr from Africa, South America, Asia and Europe. It's just been an incredible revalation. Now I've met one in my neighborhing state of Ohio! Sometimes you don't have to go so far.

Kyle is one I add to that list. It started out with a simple comment on a picture then I added a "jab" on a picture about the MG he was driving, next thing I know I'm looking at his profile, then his photostream and then we're sharing information about our hobby.

He's now an Orton addict and from the pictures he has altered I can see we have a lot in common.

Kyle, we won't be judged someday by what we say and do (and I'm especially glad of that), but for who we are inside. If your "insides" are anything like your "outsides" then I know you to be a good man!

Keep the faith and keep shooting.
