basically, i'm a candid photographer. i take pictures to capture memories, and emotions, documenting the past for the future. my trusty 5dc is often with me in pursuit of this goal.

i'm hooked on the feeling when something comes out better than expected. what's not to like about that?

you can find out more about me by going to my website and my wife's website. i've also been interviewed here.

i've spent a lot of time tagging my photos. if you think one could use another tag, go ahead.

a quick overview of my shots can be found in the sets of my etc. collection.

OR you could also just browse my stream in random order on flickriver.

if you want to make me a contact/friend/family, go ahead. i don't subscribe to the like for like contact method. i place people in my contacts when i like their photostreams. contrary to popular belief, i do NOT have mounds of explicit photos of my wife kristen, open to only friend and/or family, so don't bother asking for access to the "special" pics.

unlike most erotic posters, this account--my identity and my family's--is not anonymous.

i hang out a lot on a cool bbs, New School of Photography Forums.

i wrote up a webpage detailing my favorite greasemonkey flickr hacks -- mostly so i could remember which ones they were!

explore sucks! ;)

thanks to my legions of fans, as well as lovers of my wife's admittedly top-shelf TnA, i have just broken through 2,000,000 aggregate views on flickr.

the internet is for porn. don't think otherwise!

‎There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs.

Ansel Adams

To me, photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event.

HCB

The important thing is not the camera but the eye.

Alfred Eisenstaedt

Black and white are the colors of photography. To me they symbolize the alternatives of hope and despair to which mankind is forever subjected.

Robert Frank

It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.

Antoine de Saint-Exupery

You can observe a lot just by watching.

If you can't imitate him, don't copy him.

Yogi Berra

I cannot praise a fugitive and cloistered virtue, unexercised and unbreathed, that never sallies out and sees her adversary but slinks out of the race, where that immortal garland is to be run for, not without dust and heat. Assuredly we bring not innocence into the world, we bring impurity much rather; that which purifies us is trial, and trial is by what is contrary. That virtue therefore which is but a youngling in the contemplation of evil, and knows not the utmost that vice promises to her followers, and rejects it, is but a blank virtue, not a pure; her whiteness is but an excremental whiteness.

john milton, areopagitica (1644)

"All photographs are accurate. None of them is the truth."

-Avedon

"Photography is not about the thing photographed. It is about how that thing looks photographed."

"The photograph should be more interesting or more beautiful than what was photographed."

-Winogrand

You don't go out and accidentally find something that's going to make a good picture, but [instead, you find it] in yourself, knowing already what you want to do...at least subconsciously if not consciously; you find a thing in so-called nature or so-called reality which corresponds to this preconceived, this pre-sensitized, concept, which is hidden somewhere in your imagination or your subconscious...You go out and find what you are already prepared to see.

Clarence John Laughlin

The best zoom lens is your legs.

Ernst Haas

Photography has been a means to express the obvious.

Cecilia Henle

A photo you took yourself is a tiny time machine. You know where you were standing. You hear the sounds. Best of all, you know why you took that photo.

Pepper Hume

The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.

Dorothea Lange

The modern pantheist not only sees the god in everything, he takes photographs of it.

D. H. Lawrence

There's only one rule in photography - never develop colour film in chicken noodle soup.

Freeman Patterson

Thirty-six satisfactory exposures on a roll means a photographer is not trying anything new.

Freeman Patterson

A photo must make the viewer feel all the senses with one.

Todd Plough

A photograph is not only an image as a painting is an image, an interpretation of the real; it is also a trace, something directly stencilled off the real, like a footprint or a death mask.

Susan Sontag

The creative process can sustain itself throughout the entire celebration of photography.

Jerry Uelsmann

In the same way the karate practitioner must aim through the block to break it, the artist must aim through the photo to the subject to find the elements that can barely be felt.

Kitty Wallis

If the Egyptians had cameras they would have gotten the eyes right.

Arnie Westerman

The man who merely at rare moments has this creative impulse and expresses that creativeness through perfection and technique, surely you would not call him an artist. To me, the true artist is one who lives completely, harmoniously, who does not divide his art from living, whose very life is that expression, whether it be a picture, music, or his behavior; who has not divorced his expression on a canvas or in music, or in stone from his daily conduct, daily living. That demands the highest intelligence, highest harmony. He may express it on canvas, or he may talk, or he may paint; or he may not express it at all, he may feel it. But all this demands that exquisite poise, that intensity of awareness and, therefore his expression is not divorced from the daily continuity of living.

Jiddu Krishnamurti

I am afraid that you have misunderstood my views. I am not especially interested in anonymous photography, or pictorialist photography, or avant-garde photography, or in straight, crooked or any other subspecific category of photography; I am interested in the entire, indivisible, hairy beast—because in the real world, where photographs are made, these subspecies, or races, interbreed shamelessly and continually.

John Szarkowski

A man’s work is nothing but this slow trek to rediscover, through the detours of art, those two or three great and simple images in whose presence his heart first opened.

Albert Camus

    The Chris Valle says:

"The unwavering quality of KAG's work, both the technical refinement and his ability to find magic f'ing anywhere...is like being mugged by David Bowie or Stanley Kubrick. A humiliating blow to your ego, yet something you'll be telling people about every chance you get."

"Ken is pretty much my hero. He has a pretty rad blog, and his wife, besides being totally fucking hot, is the Queen of fucking Everything". So like Marisa, I'm trying to mimic him - I'm currently looking for some sort of royalty to wife up, but I'm not finding anything really comparable. I mean, how am I gonna compare "Princess of some tiny little province/region" to someone who rules "Everything"?

Besides being royal consort, Ken seems to like to take weird blurry abstract kinda pictures that make your eyes hurt and your brain wonder WTF you're actually looking at. At least lately. Everyone viewing his photostream is wondering when he's gonna move past this artsy phase and get back to his real strength - naked pictures of the wifey!

Shit. This testimonial was supposed to be about Ken, but I really feel like it ended up being more about Krissy. Oops. I'm gonna have to try to remember the other reasons why Ken is awesome and then come back to this.

Meanwhile, go directly to album labeled "Kristen"."

    Marisa Roman says:

"Ken is a damn good photographer. I attempt mimic him in every aspect of photography and his life. I fail everytime, from the pics of my bratty kid to trying to look hot in short shorts. (That skinny bastard!)

One day I will be worthy enough to sit at the throne of King Gilbert and not under it. One day I'll be able to take a picture and say "HA HA!! Ken! Take that! You never thought of this!!" One day I'll have hot boobs like his wife and skinny thighs like him. Who am I kidding..."

"Ken is an outstanding photographer and always has something original to show in his photostream. The way he approaches photography is one I have yet to see repeated, which makes it that much more special...

Wait...is this Ken Gilbert's page? Oops, wrong Ken."

    shelloflight says:

"First it should be noted that Ken is an obvious sexual deviant in a very endearing way. When he's not making some sort of abstract blurry photo he's also obviously not taking any photography classes because his photos don't suck.

One time I asked him how he made a picture look a certain way and all he told me was that I would look good in a mesh half shirt. I've felt truly bonded to him ever since.

In conclusion, when you are in between online porn viewing sessions, I recommend using your recovery time to look at his photostream."
