In summer 07, I made two amazing trips, to the Grand Canyon and the Yellowstone. The Canyon region is way too hot and dry. Yet it is still magestic. I prefer Yellowstone more. It feels more like a fairy land. Although I have been back home for a couple of months now, my spirit never came back. City streets seem so uncharacteristic and stifling. Occasionally, as I walk around the neighborhood, one or two stores stand out and lighten me up.

I took some pictures of these stores sometime earlier in 07. Later in the year, I found two of them shut down. Their pictures, "Twisted Spoke" (Clark & Roscoe) and "Used Boookstore" (Broadway & Cornelia) were posted in my photo stream. I'm getting more serious about photography as a hobby and bought a Nikon D80 to replace my Nikon CoolPix L12. I was hoping to retake these pictures but they were not there any more. Something strike me at that point. Nothing is eternal. Probably there used to be more stores like that in the past but we never knew because they were gone before we were born. So, although my skills are not good, I still want to make it a mission to record these unique store fronts, as a tribute to those individuals who strive to carve a niche in the homogenous corporate America, an empire which I as a product analyst help build.

For some reason, my parents in China cannot view this site. Maybe the government restricted access, but I can't think of why. So, all of my pictures are loaded to Shutterfly. It is difficult for me to maintain two sites. So, I only posted a selected number of pictures. If you are interested in browsing the complete albums, you can go to my Shutterfly sites.
