Thank you for visiting my photostream.

I’m Katrin Ray, a Toronto-based artist, as well as my husband (Yuri Shumakov aka Julian Ray), who is also a composer, whose music inspires me continuously :-)
You can listen to his music at his website.

Well-known in Origami world as the Shumakovs, Yuri and I are internationally recognized professional origami artists. First introduced to origami in France in 1989, we developed this art in our unique way. We created the fantastic Oriland world, which consists of amazing creations: goblins and wizards, castles of magical wonder, dragons, princesses, trees and flowers, sailing ships and sea creatures, dinosaur skeletons and so much more including elegant floral arrangements we call Oribana. Our origami designs have been exhibited in different countries across the globe.

Being mostly involved into paper arts and graphic design, I also explore the world of photography and find it quite flexible for artistic expression. It’s like a digital paintbrush!

All these digital capabilities, available now, allow experimenting with new techniques to create digital art works. So, I definitely will do post-processing where I feel it is needed, or just leave the photograph pristine, depending on my idea.
I am glad to add that I'm a winner of Toronto Photo Contest 2010.

Currently my Toy-ronto series is on display at Vistek Galleries across Canada!

I love creativity and everything connected with it.

By the way, talking about inspiration... If you got some inspiration from my ideas reflected in my artworks and would like to try something like that... I generally don't mind, but, please, don't forget that it will be fair and polite if you mention in your work where you got your inspiration from and link back to my work. Thank you!
It's always great when you found your own way, something unique that nobody done before, believe me :-) So, happy creating something unique!

"I stumbled upon Katrin's work by way of another contact, glad I did really as I would be really missing out. Katrin is one of those creative types, who just oozes talent and within many mediums. I think what I love most is her ability to bring these together within her photography. You never quite know what you are going to get next; magic planet, tilt/shift, origami, astro-projections .. or my personal favourite, sunshine magic.

It's been a real pleasure following your work Katrin, and I look forward to sharing your creative journey for many years to come!"

"Katrin is probably the kindest, loveliest and most supportive wonder photo creator I have had the chance of encoutering on flickr.

I must admit I have been inspired by Katrin since the day I found your stream and at the moment have been experimenting with long exposure zoom and bokeh techniques, though obviously they're not quite as stunning as hers.

The main point being, is just to say that Katrin is such a wonderful and delightful being and the effect she has on people she has never met, spanning oceans and miles of land is incredible; she has the kindest soul and Katrin, you are just sublime."

    Proleshi says:

"I always enjoy keeping up with Katrin’s work. With each presentation, the photo and her words, she puts forth something positive, uplifting and interesting to look at. Her images are the ones where I almost always have to look at the large size, just so I can soak in all the coolness. To be honest, her tilt-shit images (especially the snowy, night shots) are my favorites! She has a unique way of capturing cityscapes. Looking at her work, you can tell she takes the time to grab just the right exposures—they’re so clean and well-composed.

Thanks, Katrin for sharing your creative works with all of us. Also, thanks for the time you faithfully take to stop by and encourage me with sincere words. Your happy comments always make me smile. I know you have many contacts and it can be difficult sometimes to keep up, but you always do, and I really appreciate it."
