Originally, my body of work began as a mission to build a portfolio suited toward a fashion career. Upon finishing my first few rolls of film, developing the pictures revealed the beginning of a project that left fashion behind and started on a different path entirely. Loneliness and isolation are given a negative connotation; however, I believe being alone is the only time I can truly understand the person I was, am and will become. When no one is watching, we all do things others would not understand. There are routines we follow; there are activities that add to individuality on a level that is difficult to understand. Loneliness is a part of life, and the odd familiarity we feel with ourselves is something no one else can feel from their point of view. My work is based upon this, singular people, letting themselves out when no one is watching. The everyday, turned into abstracted, individual action. My thoughts drive what I feel and what I feel drives my thoughts. I believe that alone, humans can either be self-destructive and self-improving. We waste time, we become lost in thought, we find things to do which pass the seconds. Just as I am occupying my time by writing this, others occupy time in a different way, destructively or constructively. My artwork is abstracted and unidentifiable as the models are a part of their own individual feeling, usually selected for the particular set of photographs, but at the same time they are conveying some emotion everyone may feel at some point. We are all composed of the same basic emotions and express them in different ways at different times. Individual expressions of loneliness are the main components of the everyday.
