Karlo Mikhail I. Mongaya was born on February 1987 in Cebu City, Philippines, where he grew up transferring from one apartment residence to another before spending a few years with his grandparents in Cotabato City, Maguindanao in the early 1990s. He took up business management at the University of the Philippines Cebu College (where he was elected as student council chairman in 2006) before transferring to the UP Visayas College of Arts and Science in Iloilo to study literature.
