I feel that I often explore a fine line between expressing emotion and exploring the tangible, creating an interesting juxtaposition within my photographic practice. Many of my concepts are formed out of a need to understand my surroundings and myself. This began at a point in my life when neither of these where defined and I started producing work in relation to memory, human connections, spaces, time and the psychology of the mind. Such as dreams, fears and death. I often find myself drawn to oddities, imperfections, light, reality, semiotics, science and circumstances. My images often manifest themselves as self-portraits; historically the act of self-portraiture has been understood as a representation of the artist’s emotion, self-contemplation and self-analysis. My practice in this sense plays to this discourse, unlike the informality of the snapshot or domestic self-portraiture; my self-portraits often become a form of phototherapy, staged; with the process of creating the image becoming of equal importance as the final image itself. Exploring landscape and spaces in relation to my own presence is also a large part of my practice

"Karley is an amazing photographer, unbelievably creative! Its been fun meeting you, I just wish we'd started talking (bitching about people lol) at the beginning of our course. It'll be a shame to not have your company when we both move away. Good luck with everything you do :)"
