Kal Honey is an award-winning graduate of OCAD. Training there in graphic design, he was hired by instructor Ken Rodmell, VP Creative of Key Publishers. After a few years at Key, Kal left to form Eye-to-Eye Design with parter Kim Lee Kho. For 20 years, Eye-to-Eye was the go-to studio for publishers looking for tasteful, effective direct marketing. In 2003, Kal began to re-connect with his fine art, fortuitously choosing an experimental watercolour course with Peter Kolisnyk. The rest, as they say, was history: mentor and protegé had found each other. With Peter's unfailing support, Kal quickly made up for lost time, cranking out a wide variety of experimental work, gradually honing in on what have become his signature interests: unconventional materials and methods such as corrugated cardboard, staples, plywood and found objects, played against his refined designer's aesthetic; Cycling, and the Tour de France in particular; Typography and text: the play of written meaning and visual context. Among other projects, Kal is currently working on a monumental series of 10" square panels -- one for each of the 180 riders in the 2008 Tour de France. Meanwhile, Kal shows the occasional work at select juried and faculty shows, as well as fundraisers like OCAD's Whodunit and Station Gallery's Drawing for Art.

As an instructor, Kal's approach is two-fold:
1. He strives to create an environment that is at once supportive and adventurous: for it is only from a place of safety that one can feel free to take the necessary risks to extend one's limits.
2. He brings a keen eye for composition and formal artistic issues

Kal teaches at Haliburton School of the Arts, Koffler Centre of the Arts, Neilson Park Creative Centre, Station Gallery in Whitby and Visual Arts Mississauga, as well as courses and workshops for various community art groups throughout the GTA.
