I am a visual artist whose medium is the vernacular photograph. Facilitated by increasingly sophisticated digital technology and the age-old art of needle-in-hand, I explore new ways of perceiving these ubiquitous, but often overlooked, products of mass culture. In one body of work, I embroider quotes and/or images into original snapshots and studio portraits. In another body of work, scanned photos, which I crop, enlarge, rearrange, clean, conceal, repeat or juxtapose in Photoshop, are presented as new digital prints.
I’ve originated over a dozen series, created five hundred artworks. When we look at photographs that are two, three and four generations old, what is immediately obvious is what has changed. But, when we look int0 them — we discover what has remained constant.
