If you decide to give me invites to groups in your comments - pretty please don't use large and esp. not animated group icons. Would be also very nice if you could limit the invites to one or two at the time at most.
Invites I can live without - I'd really like to hear your own opinions about my photos however - whether you like 'em, hate 'em, have suggestions for improvements or whatever - I'd much appreciate if you leave me a comment or two.
(I do try to always return comments - if only Time, my cruel master, permits me to. Should I miss some however, I deeply apologize in advance.)
Thank you!

Now, about yours truly. Here's everything about my life and my physique that you (n)ever wished to know in Geek Code (yes, you can actually decode it, if you cut'n'paste it to this page):

Still reading this? Wow, I'm really impressed!
Yup, I know I talk too much. But since you seem to be really undaunted by this flood of words
lemme utter a few more - about the photography-related stuff:
My personal favourites, viewed on black with flickriver
(they really do look better on black)
And here the ones Flickr believes most interesting - via HiveMind
Anyway, I'm an engineer, not un artiste - and I'm afraid my shots make the lack of any artistic education painfully obvious...
Nevertheless, I've loved photography since I was a kid and I was never afraid to learn any new stuff the hard way - by trial and error. First with a cheapo Beirette box and later with my beloved Praktica.
Alas, shooting film is expensive and takes a long time to see the results. Still, the digital photography somehow didn't feel real to me, so I put it off for years. But when I finally caved in and got my first digital in spring of '06, things suddenly revved up, shifted in sixth gear - and to this day I still haven't found the brakes.
So, here I am - shooting tons of pix of my own, day after day - picking bits and pieces along the way, whilst trying to figure out how other flickrists did their most fascinating takes...
Gawping and gasping at those in awe and envy for two years, I decided I just have to have a dSLR too.
(Yeah, I know - if only a better camera could somehow compensate for lack of skills...
)
So, the geek in me had tricked my common sense into an ambush, then assailed it from behind, beating and crushing, till not a molecule of it was left - and I acquired a Pentax K20D in the spring of '08...
Anyway, I realize I still have a long way to go (well, maybe a single molecule of common sense survived after all), hence I practice a lot.
The beauty of digital is, I can shoot anything that moves.
And if it doesn't... I'll shoot it anyway - just in case... ![]()
Especially if it looks bizarre or just unusual. So my stream gradually became a weird menagerie of whatever I found interesting since I joined Flickr.
---
Now, about Flickr itself - this (minutely altered) Natalie Merchant's lyrics very much describe how I feel about it (did I mention I'm a great big fan of good music?):
I've walked these streams
In a spectacle of wealth and poverty
In the diamond markets
The scarlet welcome carpet
That they just rolled out for me
And I've walked these streams
In the madhouse asylum they can be
Where a wild-eyed misfit prophet
On a traffic island stopped and he raved of saving me
Have I been blind, have I been lost
Inside myself and my own mind?
Hypnotized, mesmerized by what my eyes have seen?
What they have seen...
Have I been blind, have I been lost?
Have I been wrong, have I been wise?
Have I been strong?
Have I been hypnotized, mesmerized, by what my eyes have found
In that stream carnival?
In that carnival...

Digit-Ized says:
"Well, here I am reading testimonials on JJ and thinkin' "Now why the hell haven't I written one" Probably for the same reasons YOU ALL did. (except I didn't steal one of his shots yet but I think it's a great idea). I think a man should not get to much kudoos - at least that's what my wife says.
I think I met JJ in the Power of Positive Relationship group - Which says a lot. The true power of being positive and meeting in a group. It was written I think.
I love his whit, his observations and a true sense of artistry (although he would probably not agree with me). Some of his shot are truly OUTSTANDING.
As engineers we are both of the same breed although I think I've moved away from the craft and you are ALL much safer believe me.
So JJ is a "Cyberfriend" and we may never meet but that's OK. To know a man through his photographs is knowing the true soul of a person - I think. But this is pretty deep so I'll move on."9th March, 2009

"what can i say...jumpinjack makes me smile and laugh and ponder. i love his comments as much as his photos. he has a great eye for the beautiful as well as the unusual and even an occasional "fluffy duckie". I look forward to see what trick he has up his sleeve or in his camera ever time i am on flickr. thanks JJ for sharing it all with us!!!! from your favorite truck driver!!!! :)"

Son of Groucho says:
"JumpinJack seems to me to be a clever bloke. He is a talented photographer, and his photos often make you think (sometimes quite hard).
He appears to have an encyclopaedic knowledge of song lyrics, and he can always come up with the perfect lines to compliment a picture.
His political views seem similar to mine IE the firmly held belief that practically all politicians are The Spawn of the Devil."2nd October, 2007

_galah_ says:
"I've been in and out of JJs life for decades. Literally. Known him since he was a wee geek. Shared some of the geek years and experiences with him. I always considered him a dear friend (also a deer friend), but now I'm not so sure what I did to him so horrible that he introduced me to flick community...
Thinking of an appropriate revenge. Not so sure it'll come anytime soon as I'm spending all my free time (and than some) on these pages..."24th May, 2007

Trapac says:
"JumpinJack's stream is THE place to drop in on a dull day, when you haven't got out of your dressing gown and you should be doing something grown up and sensible, but you decided to do some irresponsible flickring instead.
He does pithy humour with a huge heart.
He does 'Quirky' with a capital Q.
He does a great beaming smile right through his stream, his captions, his commentary and his responses.
He does visual as well as textual narrative...and some.
He does.
...and because he does, others do too. :D"29th December, 2006

Plurp says:
"He arranged his life in fortifications, with holes through which he could pour boiling water, or pitch, on uninvited visitors. Not that he ever did, of course, but just so he could if he needed to."

Lara Sorgo says:
"Writing a testimonial for Jumping Jack is not simple.
Even if I don't know him personally, I think he has an eclectic personality, as you can see from his work. His stream is so various, his photos cover a wide range of themes: social problems, flower macros, nature, landscapes, as well as his children's toys.
Creative, wit, funny. And at the same time a great contact, not interested only in photos, but people behind them."20th June, 2006

CinDLin says:
"Jack is one of my newest flickr friends and definitely one of the funniest. I love his photography almost as much as his silly sense of humor. Always ready with a hilarious comment and a kind word. An asset to the flickr community :)"

"I can't make up my mind which is more entertaining- looking through Jumpin' Jack's photostream or reading his comments. In addition to having a keen eye for taking shots from a unique perspective, he's also extremely brilliant. I admire his witty sense of humor and his seemingly endless grasp of history and current affairs. Jumpin' Jack is also quite the "IT guy extraordinaire", generously sharing his knowledge and lending support to his Flickr friends without hesitation.
Check out his "geek code"- it's proof positive this is one geeky guy- and I mean that in the most complimentary way!"5th June, 2006

Alan Jordan says:
"I really like Jack's Stairway to Heaven photo. I like it so much that I stole it. I posted it my flickr page and showed all my friends to impress them. I even sold prints under false pretenses. As part of a court order, I would like to apologize and say that this will probably never happen again."
