I am a photographer that likes to focus on the look in the eyes of a model.

The look of the human eyes has always had my interest. Perhaps this is because I was brought up in a society - North Schleswig - where I was taught always to look into the eyes of the person I was speaking to.

Over the years, living in places like, Santiago in the Dominican Republic, Bern, Zürich, Prague, Stockholm, Dublin, Karachi, Madrid and Copenhagen, I have looked into many different kinds of eyes. Eyes full of love and happiness; eyes of innocents; eyes that were eager to learn or teach others.

Having lived outside my country of origin for more than 10 years, I have seen eyes from many different religions, some being extremist; others atheists or agnostics. I have been looked at with eyes full of hate, the eyes of a murderer and eyes on the verge of committing suicide. I have looked into the eyes of a dreamer, a liar, eyes full of hope and eyes where there was no hope left.

I have also been met with eyes full of hospitality and smiles, and some with so much pain that I had to look away.

I have looked into eyes asking for forgiveness, and eyes so selfish and egocentric that I sometimes become scared that this is the trend and the way forward in this new “Century of the self “.

All these different eyes have made me who I am and the reason why I like to focus on the look in the eyes of a model when doing a photo shot, be it a portrait shoot or full body shoot.

The eyes are the window to the soul. I find its origin in the bible, 58 to 68 A.D.

Matthew 6:22-23 (King James Version):

“The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!”

Or as the French say, ”Les yeux sont le miroir de l'dme” (The eyes are the mirror of the soul).

It is that “soul” that I try to catch in my photography.

I shoot models, with or without experience, of all ethnicities and nationalities.
