A artist ought not to pick nature's pocket. Let him borrow, and so borrow as to repay by the very act of borrowing. Examine nature accurately, but create from recollection, and trust more to the imagination than the memory.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge

We live our temporary lives in a state of flux, within a liquid, winding series of unceasing moments. I approach the photographic process with a purposeful drift from the beginning to the end, and also with an eye on planning for serendipity.

My work is also about reflections. My reflections on beauty and harmony, about the magic of collaboration, and about relationships. Especially the relationship we have with our bodies. The shapes our bodies take in the watery environment can be full of emotion. The body softens and become primarily itself - a Living Temple.

Since dancers have deep training in expressing the language of their bodies, I primarily use them as my subjects, and I am called to do their art justice with my own.

Thank you in advance for your comments, I read them all..... twice! Every one of them is important to me and I appreciate feedback.

"Stunningly beautiful work. A magical amalgam of artistic sensibilities which evoke the classical symbolic religiosity of the renaissance masters while offering contemporary yet timeless metaphors and subtext. Brilliantly rendered imagery. Bravo!"

"I still remember the thrill and awe from first seeing one of Jolene's signature mythical images. In many ways, it was like seeing a Botticelli for a first time. Very impressive stuff indeed. Needless to say, her first comment on one of my photographs had the impact of a message from Mt. Olympus. I've been privileged to get to know Jolene a bit since that first image and can say that in addition to being a consummate artist, she is one of the nicest, most down-to-earth, insightful and generous people in Flickr (and elsewhere I'm sure) today. I treasure my friendship with her and am always on the lookout for her new images and for her comments on my work."

"Jolene’s Imagery is an escape from the world we live in; her work challenges our imagination taking us into other realms of thought. Through photography she refers to timeless literature; translating the words into magnificent visuals in her own ingenious way. Her work is reminiscent of art nouveau with a contemporary fantastical twist; full of moody expression. A true gift to the mind and eye; she is the queen of underwater/fantasy photography, the beauty of what she creates is overwhelming.

I would like to thank you Jolene for allowing us to step into your fantastical dream world. May you always strive for bigger and better things. Mark my words you are a legend in the making."
