"I am part of all that I have met." - Lord Alfred Tennyson (Ulysses).

This really sums up my experience with life, friends and photography.

Years ago I had an Olympus OM-1 and then an OM-10 SLR. Did a lot of B&W photography with darkroom developing and printing. Enjoyed doing portraits and wedding photography for friends (non professional). I also went through a phase of 35mm slides - a great medium.

Always enjoyed photographing the kids growing up with the OM-10. I still have it.

8 years ago I bought my first compact digital camera and then 3 years ago purchased a hybrid Fujifilm S5500 camera. It was good but was lacking in many areas. In February 2007 I bought a Nikon D80 DSLR with Nikkor 18-135mm lens. I love it!

I use Adobe Photoshop CS3 for editing etc. Great package.

My first phase with the D80 on Flickr was capturing the general area of Dublin in which I live. I still like to do this but I'm also exploring photography more and more now as an expression of art. I want to take more photos which can evoke feelings and hopefully make viewers think a bit deeper - assisted sometimes by quotations from good writers and poets.

There is much to do and enjoy and I must say making contact with Flickr users Worldwide is extremely stimulating.

I'm 53, married, and we have three wonderful daughters aged 18, 21, 24, who all live with us at home. Oh, and let's not forget the pet rabbit called "Bunny" (nobody could agree on a better name!).

"John was one of the first people I encountered when I ventured into the Flickr community. He immediately proved to be a very helpful and generous person and to be honest id have probably given up at an early stage but for his encouragement.

John's gallery is a wonderful tribute to all thats powerful about his surroundings and i would highly recommend spending the time to look through his many fascinating photographs.

I have no problem in recommending John as being a leading light in the world of honest photography and can only hope he continues for many many years to come.

Keep 'er lit John, you're a top man."
