I am husband to Jen, Dad to Katherine, Elias and Madeline, and the pastor of Redeemer Fellowship in Saint Charles, IL. I love to run and when I have time I bust out my Nikon D70s.

All photographs are © copyright protected. If you wish to use them please send me an email letting me know what for. Thanks!

I love that photography can tell a story - true or false; that it can convey feeling with inanimate objects; that in including/excluding from the frame I get to decide what you look at, but you still decide what you see.

I am very new to photography and have a lot to learn - so please share your insights with me.

Some of my photographs have been selected for the Gaper's Block blog "Rear View" section, and for the Chicago Public Radio website and their 2007 calendar. Six others made their way into a local gallery for the sesquicentennial celebration of the city of Dekalb.

Gear:
Nikon D70s
Sigma DC 18-125mm
Nikon Speedlight SB-600
That's it, save for a bunch of memory cards, a junky tripod and a Lowepro Slingshot 200 all weather camera bag.

"There is something distinctly engaging about the photographs Joe takes, and his unique perspective is showcased throughout the diversity of subject matter here (from candids to self-portraits to street photography).

Additionally, I am one of many who has been helped and encouraged by Joe's comments and feedback. It is people like Joe that make flickr a positive and generative community."

    Daniel Hoye says:

"Being a member of the United States military currently serving overseas, and a native of the Chicagoland area, Joe Thorns photographs have come to mean a lot to me. He manages to capture the sights and sounds of a wonderful city in a way few others have. If you want an honest, thoughtful tour of Chicago but can't afford the airfare, then I suggest letting Joe be your guide."

"I'm often too lazy to leave a comment, but I've been enjoying Joe's photostream ever since I became Flickr addict. The quality of his work amazes me, and I have learned a lot from the way he captures every day life. Joe also has a skill to spot things that most of us won't notice. And he is never afraid to show his values. That's why I hope his pro account never expires :-D"

"If you want to keep your eye on a handful of young photographers, make sure Joe is one of them. It's clear that he is working hard at creating thoughtful and truthful photographs."
