The best way to describe me would be to say, I am an outdoors woman at heart who grew up in the city of Ferndale, Michigan (just outside Detroit). As a kid, I couldn't wait to escape to the lakes, woods and fields outside the city limits. Our small backyard and surrounding neighborhood offered a limited glance at the beauty of nature. I enjoy spending time in the outdoors and learning new things just for the sake of knowledge. There is joy in finding things out.

My lifelong hobby has been birding. I am always on the look out for an interesting birding opportunity. Birds have fascinated me ever since I saw that first Barn Swallow nesting in the corner of our cabin at Camp Stapleton, on Lake Huron in 1969. That was the bird that first sparked my interest. I soon there after started noticing birds, and I was on my way to a life long love of birds and nature.

I picked up an old camera as a young girl and immediately acquired the shutter bug. My parents gave me my own camera at age 13. I enjoy documenting moments in time to preserve memories for future generations. I am fascinated with genealogy and my parent's heritage. Without pictures there isn't a tangible connection to past generations. Memories fade, and without photographs we lose our connection to the past. That is a tragedy. That is one of the main reasons I shoot. Connect past generations with future generations via the use of the camera and photograph.

I like to hear a good joke, love to laugh and smile and give a big hug. You are my friend the moment we meet. As symbolized by the Claddagh Symbol - Friendship, Loyalty and Love are important aspects of the Irish temperament. That is the Irish way. I enjoy meeting new people and going places, trying new things. I am quite proud of my Irish heritage. I have a large extended family across the country.

On December 18th, 2008, we brought home an 8 week old female Chocolate Labrador Retriever puppy to fill our hearts. We named her Holly. She is a joyful Labrador pup with curiosity and spunk.

On December 27, 2008, I began a 365 photo project of Holly to document the first year with our family. She is my treasure and constant companion. When we enter the house, Holly will run past my husband and daughter to greet me first. She won't greet them until she has thoroughly greeted me with a big kiss and near leap into my arms. I am crazy about her. Need I say more, other than to say view the 365 photoset and understand my affection for her.

My treasured first Chocolate Labrador Retriever - Chip, passed away in November of 2008. We had a wonderful relationship for 10 years. I miss him very much. You will find many photos of him on my photostream. A fine and acceptional canine who enriched my life and taught me lessons of compassion, humility, love, courage and selflessness. Chip was a disabled dog who struggled with paralysis and multiple health problems, but never did he get grumpy or ill tempered. He maintained a cheerful disposition throughout his various illnesses and strokes. He taught me many lessons, to forge on and stay positive even when things aren't going the way as you planned. He was a gift from above. I will cherish his soul forever.

I am also interested in the weather and the four seasons. The change of seasons offers different opportunities of discovery in the environment. I am a National Weather Service Skywarn Advanced Weather Spotter. Thunderstorms excite and thrill me. I have yet to see a tornado in person. I had experienced tornadic thunderstorms but never the funnel cloud. I have come close on a few occasions.

I like to experience nature up close through my camera lens and the evolving landscapes of the seasons.

All is not dirt and mud in my shoes, I covet girly stuff and feeling feminine, pretty jewelry and French perfume. I enjoy wearing pretty sweaters and my rugged barn coat. If I don't paint my fingernails it is because I don't have the time. There are more important things to do than worry about what shade looks good on my fingernails. I can't sit still long enough for them to dry.

My ideal job would be to spend the day out in the woods showing people all of the beautiful things that nature has to offer. The beauty of nature should be shared for us all to enjoy and appreciate.

My primary role in life is wife and confidant to my best friend and husband of 25 years, and mother to a lovely college age daughter. My daughter is my pride and joy. I am blessed to be her mother. I have seven siblings. I am number 7 of 9. My mom is 88. My wonderful father passed in 2002. He is always in my heart. I miss his quiet charm, graciousness, thoughtfulness and Irish sense of humor. He taught me to appreciate nature and enjoy life. He and I used to sit on our front porch in Ferndale during the summer evenings listening to Detroit Tigers baseball, enjoying a quiet conversation and listening to the crickets chirp their summer song. I miss those treasured times very much. When I hear the crickets at night, I think of my dad. I Love ya, dad!

I thorougly enjoy football, basketball, baseball, hockey and horse racing. I have been known to scream at the TV when overly excited. My husband has to calm me down sometimes. My passion for competitive sports can get the better of me. I have a great time out on the golf course and can drive a ball pretty well. Can't putt for dough, though. I am a bowling coach for high school kids. I like the precision of bowling - throw the ball, knock things down and release your tensions. Yeah! I am a USBC certified bowling coach. I enjoy teaching others the sport of bowling. I love football, what more can I say.

Such is life as an Irish gal who wishes it were St. Patrick's Day everyday. Erin Go Bragh!

May the roads rise up to meet you. May the wind be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; The rain fall soft upon your fields And, until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

An Irish Blessing

You Are Not Prissy

You're the furthest thing from a princess - and you probably stay far away from any princess types you know.
You have an easygoing approach to living. It doesn't take a lot to make you happy.
And when life requires it, you're ready to get your hand a little dirty.
There's no problem you're too prissy to tackle!

    David Sr. - says:

"Janet is quite a nice person. I have enjoyed getting to know her on-line. I appreciated her kind words as I recovered from my surgery. She is a kind person that brings civility and kindness to what can often be a crass impersonal community! Plus she takes nice photos! :-)"
