I don't know if it is always true but photographers always seem to me to be more alive or more aware of or more in the moment. When a photographer picks up a camera "The Stage Is Set, It's Showtime". - by me

CLAYTON ON ART: Lots of stuff
By Alec Clayton

In Tacoma, photographer Jim Oliver is having a show at The Tahoma Center Gallery called Your Table is Waiting. I previewed photos from the show and was very impressed with their formal simplicity and elegance. There will be a reception March 17 from 5-7:30 p.m. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. The gallery is located on the 2nd floor of the old St Leo's School at 1323 S. Yakima Ave., Tacoma.

Here is a list of my current and upcoming projects and exhibits.

I currently have 3 images hanging in The Gallery at TCC as part of the "Pop Art to Post Pop Exhibit" and runs through April 16th.

I will again be teaching a Beginning Garden Photography course at Lakewold Gardens this spring. The classes are on Saturday Mornings, from 10 AM until 12:30 PM, with the first class on March 19th and will run through the end of April.

I will also be having a solo photography exhibit at the Tahoma Center Gallery in downtown Tacoma, WA from March 1st through April 27th. I will have 40 framed works on exhibit. Tentative title for the exhibit is "Your Table Is Waiting". The exhibit reception will be from 5Pm until 7:30 or so on March 17th, I hope you will be able to attend.
As part of this exhibit I have offered to the Evergreen Picture Framing Guild (EPFG) that I am willing to hang the winning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries of the March framing competition for the remainder of my exhibit. They have chosen to use my image "The Non-Aquarium At Wright Park" for their competition. The exhibit reception will be from 5Pm until 7:30 or so on March 17th, I hope you will be able to attend.

I am considering doing a photo book of the images in the exhibit.

Also, I am a member of the 253 Arts Collective. I have been interviewed by South Sound Magazine for an article that they are doing on the Collective for their spring edition. I am hopeful that the spring edition will come out in March or early April.

I also still have my day job... the next few months are going to be very busy for me.

After about 16 months I am finally going to update the images and folders on my website. My flickr friends have seen how I have improved over the past year or so, it's now time for my other friends to see it as well.

I'll be adding about 188 images to it, and initially putting them all into a folder titled (Mr Originality Here) "New Works". Stay tuned for further announcements.

I'm going to be teaching a Garden Photography course at Lakewold Gardens this spring. The first of 6 classes starts on March 24th. It will be a heavy emphasis on Macro but will also cover landscape topics such as waterfalls, ponds, and garden structures such as gazebos, trellises, and statues, as well as trees, walkways, etc. I plan on talking for about an hour and then everybody heads out to the gardens for fun and to practice. Registration is through Lakewold Gardens at www.lakewoldgardens.org

It's been awhile since I updated this, almost a year. Here goes.....
I had a 2nd Solo show at Tahoma Center Gallery. 2 images were accepted into the 2009 Edmonds Art Festival. 2 images were accepted into the Peninsula Art League exhibit at the Gig Harbor Civic Center. 2 images were in the 2009 Shoreline Arts Festival. One image was accepted into the 7th Annual Open Local Juried exhibit at Tacoma Community College, where it received the Jurors Choice Award.
I did the cover photography for Leanne Trevalyn's Dandelion CD.
In the past 11 months I have had images published in 6 issues of City Arts Tacoma magazine.
I have had 2 images published in the Wenatche World newspaper.
I have sold a few framed images thanks to Kimball Gallery in Gig Harbor.
I took the First Place ribbon at the National Arts Program competition here in Tacoma.
I had 8 of the 43 images in the 7th Annual Tacoma Mountaineers Photography Exhibit, and received an Honorable Mention for "White Lilly"
I took 3rd place at The Proctor Arts Festival, and I am still forgetting something.... ahhh Yes... I have 3 images hanging in patient rooms at St Anthony's Hospital in Gig harbor.
In November of 2009 I will had a solo exhibit of 14 images on the 12th floor of the Tacoma Municipal Building which is the floor with the mayors offices and the city council offices.
I have one image hanging in the Brickhouse Gallery.

With the occasional rare exception, all of my photographs are taken within a 2 1/2 hour drive of Tacoma. Mind you, a few may be a few hours hike beyond that.

I don't have Photoshop. I do have Photoshop Elements. I prefer to do do very little image correcting/enhancing, but I am doing more now than I have in the past

All of my images are for sale. Email me for particulars or go to my website and order securely online.

Thanks,
Jim
