sometimes i pretend i live in the country, perpetually in a sundress with skinned knees carrying a tin pail with water. waiting for the driveway to explode into dust and hear him coming. and sometimes at night, i know why we're lonely. and lately it doesn't make me sad, it comes in bittersweet waves and i want to wake up in the morning and make and pretend my life is weightless and free.
