Although I have had an SLR camera since I was a kid, I never took too much time at looking through the lens. That changed when I bought my first serious digital camera in September 2007. Digital makes life so much easier and, if you want, makes you a better photographer by showing the results right away.
I have a long way to go but I (tell myself that I) can see some improvement in my compositions as my experience grows. And besides learning it's fun of course to just go out and shoot. I am a guy so I am somewhat preoccupied with the gear, and I find it hard to let go of wanting to buy more (expensive) stuff. I know I will never get rid of it completely, tough luck!
