About me:

Some call me crazy, some call me a genius, and most would call me unique. I call myself a visionary, a shaper, and a doer.

I can't stand monotony, I love be involved in things that cause positive change. I will be a millionaire by 30. I will never make a career out of working for others. I will leave this world having made the lives of those around better somehow. Everything I do I give my all to.

Most of my young life was spent serving in various roles in boy scouting, working to build and strengthen programs that teach leadership, citizenship, and community obligation to young men and boys. Now as an adult I continue to serve to help shape young boys' lives till they become strong young men. My earlier photos are mostly of scouting trips and events, and some of my favorites and contacts are also scouts.

I seek beauty in the world around me. Every once in a while I will find that beauty while concurrently holding a camera in my hand. The results are wonderful.

About my Photos:

I will take a photo of anything that asks me to, whether literally or figuratively. But my favorite types of photos to take are of people in candid situations. I like to get shots, usually face shots, of people doing what they do best: being themselves. I also like pictures of subject through things or reflected. Finally, light is my toy, and I greatly enjoy long exposure photography including light painting.

My Equipment

I shoot mainly with my Canon Digital Rebel XTi. My favorite lens is the 50mm f/1.4. I also shoot with a Canon Powershot A230, a quality Point-and-Shoot that was a gift from my grandparents. I occasionally break out my Vivitar 285HV flash unit, and I own six tripods of various sizes.

About my screenname, since everyone asks:

My screenname came about in a funny way... a long time ago I used a "Lord of the Rings Name Generator" to transform my name into a name that could be seen in the writings of JRR Tolkien. I did it because people in my favorite forum (FBTB.net) made a game out of it. My actual Elvish name was three words long, but the coolest part was Avarhirion. It was easy to say and spell, and so unique that no one else on the net uses it as a screenname. Those are rare, so I held on to it!

A Note to Flickr Users with Ill Intentions

I enjoy photography, and I enjoy a good picture--whether of a kid, adult, nature, or whatever. As such, I comment and favorite a lot of photos. There are people on flickr who favorite and comment on photos for ill intentions, you know who you are. I check people who favorite or comment on my photos with kid subjects, and I will block people who I feel are using my photostream and flickr for ill intentions. Consider yourselves warned.
