I have always had an interest in cities and architecture. From a very young age I would draw imaginary town layouts, sometimes a couple of metres long, and add / remove buildings and roads until the paper fell apart. It never really ocurred to me to try to make a career in the geography field and I fell into working with databases.

My interest in cities piqued again when I moved to the US at age 20 and saw the contrast between poverty / abandonment and gentrification / renewal in Baltimore, as well as seeing the differences in land use from the UK. Web forums SkyScraperPage and SkyScraperCity helped me learn why the US suburbs developed the way they did, and also that there are plenty of people out there advocating a better way.

I returned to the UK in 2006 and am currently living in the Welsh valleys.
