If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is listening, does it make a sound?
If a shutter clicks on a camera, and it records an image that no one ever sees, is it real?

I'm basically a country boy at heart, born and raised in the country. I work as a software engineer and developer, but when I'm not on the computer I tend to drift back towards the environment I like best: the great outdoors. I sit on the board of a local land preservation organization, and do what I can to keep the land natural, wild and pristine. One of my pet peeves: air pollution; we need to stop burning so much coal and make use of alternate clean energies.

I am an avid bicyclist. I've been riding all my life, almost every day! When I am riding I am in my glory ;o) And of course, I try to bring my camera along for the ride. In the summer I am also a birder, because I record the calls, songs and sightings of birds for the Pennsylvania Breeding Bird Atlas project as a volunteer.

In addition to everything else, I also like to write. Below I have included a few samples of my work, and this link will take you to a story I wrote as a tribute to the beauty of the natural world (many of my photos are a capture of the beauty of the natural world)

Listen to the dawn chorus,
as early birds sing their song,
sung perhaps not just for us,
yet believed as we belong.

And I perceive not randomness,
but music to my ears,
I hear an oral symphony,
methinks pure thought appears.

Nature enchants with her delightful qualities
Those particular characteristics that attract
A breezy inexplicable magical charm
Mischieviously woven yet inexact.

My Favorite Things

Trifles and turtles and chestnuts in roses;
Bright colored pictures of things in odd poses;
Symphonic music with trumpets and strings;
These are a few of my favorite things;

Bagels for breakfast with coffee and creamer;
Colors of autumn when leaves won't be greener;
Fine lyric verses a gay songbird sings;
These are a few of my favorite things;

Steep mountain passes and hillsides with flowers;
Bike rides to places in long country hours;
Coy flirting tidings a new email brings;
These are a few of my favorite things;

When the dog bites,
When the bee stings,
When I'm feeling sad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.
