InGERA 2006 - Geoarchaeology at Aksum's photostream |
InGERA 2006 is the International Geoarchaeological and Environmental Research at Aksum. It is a joint project between the Department of Archaeology, University of Cambridge (UK), and the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, IMF-CSIC (Spain) in collaboration with Boston University (USA) and Oriental Institute, Naples (Italy).
The research project aims to explore the ancient environmental history and rural economy of the Aksum area, in the northen Ethiopian highlands, through an interdisciplinary approach. Our research strategy includes the application of geoarchaeological and palaeoenvironmental techniques such as soil micromorphology, plant macro and microremains (e.g. charred wood, phytoliths), geomorphology, historical ecology and archaeology.
