SHINICHI IMANAKA

Born in Japan in 1966. At the age of 18, he headed for the U.S.A. to experience "new world," and to study English at the same time. After spending two years of culture shock, language barrier, adaptation, frustration, alteration at the college in Tennessee, he transfered to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to study filmmaking. Instead of concentrating on filmmaking, he took extensive painting and drawing courses. After the acquisition of BFA, he moved back to Japan and started living in Tokyo to achieve his dream to become a fine artist. He had gradually realized that, in his case, it might take long to achieve his dream.

In 2000, thanks to his good friend at Amana Images, a stock photo agency based in Japan, he was commissioned to make a series of portrait illustrations for their stock image archives. As soon as the catalogues containing his illustrations were published, they caught the attention from several art directors. This step encouraged and allowed him to take off as a full-time illustrator. Some of the clients include Del Monte, Jazztel, Schwarzkopf, Medical Tribune, American Family Insurance Company, Nikkei Shimbun (Japan Ecconomic Newspaper), Brother Industries, Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems, Suntory, Ministop, Kodansha, Kobunsha, etc. In 2005, his first children's book was published from Kodansha in Japan.

今中信一（いまなかしんいち）
1966年兵庫県生まれ。1985年、渡米。テネシー州の小さな大学で寮生活を送りつつ、英語や一般教養コースを取り、カルチャーショック、言葉の壁、フラストレーション、環境への適応等々を経て、映画制作を学ぶために、シカゴ美術館付属美術学校へ編入学。尊敬する監督の多くが絵を描く事に感化され、油彩やドローイングの授業を中心に取り始め、結局、絵画コースでBFAを取得し1990年卒業。

卒業後、初めての日本の大都会、東京で制作活動を開始。紆余曲折の後、2000年にストックフォトエージェンシーのアマナイメージズでのポートレートシリーズを皮切りにイラストレーターとしての活動を開始。主なエンド・クライアントとしては、シュテルン、デルモンテ、ジャズテル、シュワルツコフ、メディカル・トリビューン、アフラック、日経新聞、ブラザー工業、ジョンソン＆ジョンソン・ヘルスケア・システムズ、サントリー、ミニストップ、講談社、光文社、等。2005年、初めての絵本「あっ！〜ぼくがさがしていたものは〜」が講談社より発売。

現在、神戸市から車で約１時間程の兵庫県の田舎で活動。イラストとアートをどう分けるのか結局分からず、かなりいい加減なグニャグニャな境界線を引いて満足。ジャンルに関係なく、とにかく「いいものはいい」と強引に納得。何が「いい」のかを判断できる自分なりの基準を持っていればいいんじゃないかと思いつつも、その「いいもの」は必ずしもいつも同じ所に鎮座してるわけではなく、動くようで不安。
