Defined as a musical style, Hip Folk is literally a melting pot of the two traditions (and thus as American as apple pie). Take the rhythms of Jay-Z and the folk guitar of Jack Johnson, and you’re on the right track. Essentially, Hip Folk mixes poetic lyricism with acoustic grooves to create a sound that projects the future of popular music. It is classically familiar, yet distinctly original. Hip Folk Records, a subsidiary of Hip Folk Inc, is a truly independent record company which began in early 2009 by Bob Kendes, a musical entrepreneur, and a venture capitalist, Colton Riley. Bob Kendes & The Peace, the first band under the Hip Folk brand, took a lively blend of hip-hop and folk-rock to create a musical genre self-described as hip-folk (hence the company name)

As a business, Hip Folk, Inc. is an organization committed to producing great music. A company founded on a musical style that embraces a blend of traditions, Hip Folk is always seeking out cutting edge talent from a variety of influences–as long as they have a distinctive sound.
