I'm a landscape photographer specialising in traditional black and white film and wet darkroom processes. Although I live in mid Wales, my work though is almost exclusively concerned with the landscapes found in the North of Scotland. Whilst out alone with my camera, I seek wild, desolate and rugged landscapes, largely devoid of human life. Many of the places that I am drawn to have a significance which derives from early childhood. Some are places that I visited as a child, when I was neither old enough nor wise enough to appreciate these unassuming beauty spots, but nevertheless, their impact on my childish mind must have been imposing. Time and time again I return North to photograph what I see all around me. In doing so, I have realised that my work is not merely an aesthetic depiction of the land, but has a much deeper meaning, which I can only describe as a spiritual and emotional connection to the places which I have become to regard as my second home.
