Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to strengthening communities by empowering low-income families to change their lives and the lives of future generations through homeownership opportunities. This is accomplished by working in partnership with diverse people, from all walks of life, to build simple, decent affordable housing. Habitat’s mission, however, is not simply to build homes; it is to work collectively with members of the greater Hartford community to create affordable homeownership opportunities that also serve as a platform for positive change. Our motto of “Building More Than a House” is reflective of the idea that by building simple, decent housing, other favorable changes occur within the community as well. With every Habitat home that is built, communities grow stronger, neighborhoods become safer, children and parents act more responsibly, the home environment becomes more stable and families begin to build wealth. Habitat’s goal is to be more than a construction company: we help to revitalize neighborhoods, empower families, connect communities, strengthen partnerships and bring people together to forge new friendships.
